What is ODL Open Distance Learning?
ODL is the combination of two educational concepts: Open Learning and
Distance Learning. It is usually called as distance learning. E learning led to
open distance learning and it started in twenty first century. In a country,
there are many government and semi government institutions who provide open
distance learning. For example, in Pakistan, AIOU is providing open distance
learning.
In this process, a student get register to any university that provides open
distance learning. The classes are virtual based. Sitting at his home, any
student is able to get higher level of education. He is able to take live
lectures, watch recorded video, and attend different workshops. The voice of
the teacher in a video is clear, he is able to repeat the lectures whenever he
desires to make his perception clear.
MDL stand for Modular Distance Learning. The university provides printed
material and digital modules to the students. Students, using internet,
download these materials, prepare it and upload their assignments on it. There
are four types of learning modalities: Downloading digital work, online
learning, radio and television based instructions.
MA done by ODL is acceptable for M.Phil or Ph.D admisions. There is different
criteria for different university. No doubt, ODL master level degree is equivalent
to degrees got in face to face or regular learning. Master level degree got
through ODL system is equal to degree got through regular system of education.
So, master degree got by ODL education system is equal to normal master level
degree. The students can apply for M.Phil and Ph.D degree programs.
