Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has announced a transformative plan to empower students across the province. Speaking at a ceremony at Okara University, she revealed that 100,000 e-bikes and 50,000 scholarships will be distributed to students next year. During the event, she also handed out scholarship cheques to deserving students, receiving portraits and photographs as tokens of appreciation.
In her address, Maryam Nawaz described the Talented
Students Scholarship Program as the largest initiative of its kind in
Pakistan's history. “I’ve come here not just to speak but to connect with
students and hear their voices,” she stated, reaffirming her dedication to
advancing education.
Acknowledging the efforts of Education Minister Rana
Sikander Hayat, she said, “He is a model of resilience, accepting constructive
criticism and consistently delivering results.” She also encouraged students to
prioritize truth and integrity in all aspects of life.
The Chief Minister shared details of the government’s
educational support plans, announcing that 30,000 scholarships will be awarded
this year, with the number increasing to 50,000 next year. She highlighted that
the scholarships and e-bike initiative are acknowledgments of students’ hard
work and merit, rather than acts of charity.
Additionally, she unveiled plans for establishing Okara
Medical College by 2025 and shared the good news about the arrival of the first
batch of laptops under the government’s student support scheme. She assured
that the scholarship program adheres strictly to merit, with no political
biases or external influences impacting the selection process.
The ceremony concluded on a lively note as Maryam Nawaz
mingled with students, posing for selfies and engaging in friendly
conversations, especially with young women. Her approachable demeanor created
an atmosphere of joy and inspiration, leaving a lasting impression on the
attendees.
