Punjab Schools to Stay Closed on Fridays – New Timings
Announced
LAHORE: The Punjab Education Department has introduced a new
schedule under which all schools across the province will remain closed on
Fridays.
According
to the official report, both government and private schools will now operate
from Monday to Thursday, with classes scheduled from 8:00 AM to 1:30
PM.
For
schools running in double shifts, the first shift will be held from 8:00
AM to 12:30 PM, while the second shift will run from 1:00 PM to
5:30 PM.
This
proclamation comes as educational institutions reopened on April 1,
following a 22-day closure (March 10–31). The shutting was part of
federal measures aimed at conserving fuel amid rising global oil prices linked
to ongoing international tensions.
During
this period, schools continued online classes, while examinations were
conducted as per schedule.
In
the meantime, in Sindh, the provincial government has also recommenced physical
classes from April 1. Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced
that all educational institutions — including schools, colleges, and
universities — have shifted back to in-person learning.
Additionally,
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah confirmed that the new academic
year has officially begun, with a two-day weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
for schools across the province. He also encouraged students and teachers to
fully benefit from the return to classroom learning.
