The Punjab Education Department has introduced a new dress code for teachers in government schools, specifying clear guidelines for both male and female educators to promote professionalism and discipline.
According to the official circular, male teachers are required to wear shalwar kameez with a waistcoat or formal attire, such as pants, shirts, and ties. They are also expected to maintain a clean-shaven appearance.
Female teachers must adhere to wearing shalwar kameez
paired with a scarf and closed-toe shoes. The department has emphasized that
all clothing and footwear must be modest and non-transparent.
To ensure the effective implementation of these rules, school principals have been directed to strictly enforce the dress code among faculty members.
Alongside maintaining the prescribed attire, teachers are
urged to prioritize completing the syllabus as the academic year nears its
conclusion. Daily lectures should be delivered with special attention to
students' academic progress, while also incorporating character-building
activities to support holistic development.
In addition to academic responsibilities, teachers are
required to supervise students during recess to ensure their safety and prevent
them from leaving the school premises during school hours.
Educators are also
encouraged to promote hygiene practices, such as hand washing after using bathrooms.
The department has instructed schools to keep restrooms properly stocked with
water, soap, and towels to maintain cleanliness.
Lastly, to promote safety and conserve resources, staff
must ensure that all doors and windows are securely closed and that electrical
appliances, including lights, fans, heaters, and water pumps, are switched off
before leaving the school premises. These measures are intended to foster a
professional and secure learning environment for both students and staff.
