E-Learning being Popular in Pakistan
Digital Literacy, a good step of Punjab Government
Punjab Government had started E-Learning
Program in 2013 aiming at to provide books to the students in digital form. The
Punjab Government provided a fund of 200 Million Rs to Punjab Information
Technology Board. In this respect 26 books of Science and English from 6 grade
to 12 grade were digitalized and provided online to the students. This project ended
in June 2018 but again its tenure was extended till 30th June 2019 so
that to use the remaining funds thoroughly.
The Board has also provided supplementary readings.
To explain these supplementary readings animations have been used. There is
also a facility of Urdu voice over to explain difficult material which is in English
language. Relevant videos are also being used to provide proper understanding
to the online students.
After 30 June 2019 all the activities of
Digitalization will be handed over to Punjab Text Book Board and a better
future strategy will be adopted to facilitate the students online. Punjab Text
Book Board has already provided 185 books from grade one to grade 12, in digital
form with downloading facility. Through this one can cope with the book
shortage problem in the market.
Stats show, from 1st January
2019 to 11 January 2019, some 4 lac and 54 thousands books have been read
online and a data of 1900 GB was downloaded, that is a happy sign. There is
also a planning of recording lectures of expert subject teachers to further facilitate
the students. This thing will help the students getting in different
educational institutions, and particularly the private students will get a lot
of benefit and they could save their educational expenditures.
In Pakistan, mostly the users use smart phones,
and all these things also have been provided in a mobile application that is
becoming popular rapidly. But still more efforts are being done to facilitate
the online students.
